From September 15 to October 22, 2010,
the Montreal Centre for
Contemporary Textiles (MCCT) will be hosting Text in Textile2,
an exhibition of interactive textiles
presented by Anna Biró. The opening will be held on Wednesday,
September 15th at 5 pm.
Initially shown last April at Montréal, arts interculturels (MAI),
the artist is offering us a new reading, a
sequel to that exhibition. Inspired by archival interviews with
people from different cultural backgrounds,
Anna Brió uses various materials in her work - for example bits
of audio and video tape - to evoke these
collective and individual stories.
This exhibition includes interactive
textiles equipped with sensors that
generate sounds when they are touched thus creating a variety
of sound textures. Biró seeks to unravel
the threads of forgotten and fragmented stories that are buried
in the memory of the fabric.
Biró was born in Romania and she now lives and works in Montreal.
She is a graduate of the Ioan
Andreescu Academy of Visual Arts in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, and
of the Montreal Centre for
Contemporary Textiles. The quality of her work as an artist and
as a costume designer has been praised
in North America, Europe and Japan. In 2007-2008, she benefited
from the Guidance and Mentoring
Service of the Montréal, arts interculturels (MAI), and she received
a Research and Creation Grant from le
Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec for the preparation
this exhibition.
The MCCT gallery is open from Monday to Friday from 9 am to
4:30 pm. The gallery will be closed on
Monday, October 11, 2010.
